Dr Alan M Tinnion (Shanghai University of TCM) CV details

Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Advanced), Shanghai University, China. Graduate of Shanghai University of TCM and practitioner in the Shanghai No. 1 Peoples Hospital.

Professor of traditional Chinese Internal and External martial and therapeutic arts.

Master of Qi-Gong, the Science of Therapeutic Breathing Exercise, and Tai-Ji, The Traditional Chinese form of exercise for health and fitness.


Mid 1970’s – 2001: From a very young age during extended visits to Malaysia over a period of many years Alan received personal 1-2-1 tuition in the traditional Chinese medical therapeutic art of qi-gong and related internal arts from Dr Chee Kim Thong (Grandmaster Chee Kim Thong: declared in his lifetime ‘A Living National Treasure of the People’s Republic of China’).

1993 – 1995: During the period of his studies at Shanghai University of TCM (1993 – 1995), Alan received personal instruction from Professor Zhang (a senior teaching professor at the university) in a number of medical qi-gong health care exercises for a range of specific health conditions.

In 1997 he was accepted to study at SOAS, University of London, for the degree of BA (Hons) Chinese Mandarin Language, and is fluent in Colloquial Chinese.

Member of the BRCP (British Register of Complimentary Practitioners: Chinese Medicine Division).

Member of the Qigong Institute.

Alan is an Advisor to the ICNM (Institute of Complementary and Natural Medicine): in 2010 he became an ICNM Moderator for his specialist field (Qi Healing, Qi-Gong, Tai Chi, and related fields/disciplines).

ICNM Best Practitioner of the Year (South-West England) Award Winner.

Member of the Institute of Continuing Professional Development (ICPD): and providing through Qi China International (an ICPD Corporate Affiliate Member) on-line and seminar-based Continuing Professional Development services.
